Thanks for your comments.

I am not sure I understand the remark "I tire of comments which imply that we lack charity if we speak the truth.".

Think of B XVI's encyclical "Caritas in Veritate" in which he wrote "Love - caritas- is an extrqordinary force which leads people to opt for courageous and generous engagement in the field of justice and peace".

Obama's children can also say that their parents were pro-life as they could have aborted them.

Does anyone know how to modify one's signature?

Is this about "Deo Gtatis" or "eo Gratias"?

WWJD with Obama? The very same thing that the successor to St. Peter has done,
which is show him the love of Christ, treat him with respect and provide instruction on an issue which he needs to know about-in the case of President Obama, it is the issue of respect for life, all life, at every stage. The Dignity of the Human person. I must say, I believe that what the Pope has told him will hold more weight and be remembered by Obama because our Holy Father did indeed practice what he preached. The first meeting of President Obama with the Holy Father has planted a seed of conversion and faith because charity was first shown. "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8. Christ died for Obama too!
I think we forget that fact. He too must be treated with respect. The Holy Father is wise, because he responded to Obama with charity THEN instructed him with the defense of human life. This should be the response of all Christians.
Yes, we oppose anything that destroys life. Obama's mother was pro-life. She could have aborted him. I pray that he sees that and God gives him the conviction that all life in every stage must be protected in our country's laws so that we may survive and thrive as a nation.

I read in this article "Nevertheless, the lack of unanimity among American bishops in responding to the blatant lies of Catholic politicians that abortion is morally acceptable is a mystery to most faithful Catholics."

Criticism of bishops is not really constructive.

The bishops are the successors of the Apostles and deserve our support and loyalty.

Perhaps we should remember what Ignatius wrote to the Smyrneans;
"You must all follow the bishop, as Jesus Christ followed the Father"
(Michael William Holmes, The Apostolic Fathers : Greek Texts and English Translations (Updated ed.; Grand Rapids, Mich.: Baker Books, 1999), 189).

The Pope received President Obama in a wonderfully friendly and respectful way, while not minimizing Catholics respect for life. Wouldn't it be great if in America all Catholics would treat politicians and other leaders with similar charity?

I shall pray for the Bishops who did the right thing in chastising both Catholic politicians and Notre Dame University. I shall also pray for the reformation of those who seemingly shirked their pastoral duty. Clearly, the role of Bishop is a demanding and challenging in both the secular and religious spheres. The two are immutably intertwined. Though not physically threatened, the Bishops and we, their flocks, are exposed to the "soft tyranny" of both government (tax policy, tax exempt status) and the secular press. The latter is particularly egregious and gives rise to articles as in Newsweek "Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does." http://www.newsweek.com/id/205961

Isa 51:7 "Listen to me, you who know right from wrong and cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid of people's scorn or their slanderous talk."

Thank you, Mr. Gieb, for a rousing biography of a saint I've never heard of before (but then, I'm not Irish). St. Oliver is truly a role model and hero to our generation in the U.S., who may well be called on to suffer in our own time.
