It is important not to fall into two opposite errors as regards the Resurrection Body of Jesus Christ is concerned. One is to think that it was made up of the same atoms as his body was made up when he was alive. This would cause us to wonder whether we, whose atoms get mixed into the environment and become parts of other people's bodies, will share in his resurrection. St. Paul put this idea to rest in I Corinthians 15.

The opposite error is to give some esoteric meaning to the whole episode, as Anthony Wilhelm did in _Christ_Among_Us, a very popular book in the late 60's [1st edition: 1967] and the 70's [2nd edition: 1975] when the many errors of the "spirit of Vatican II" were still largely unchecked.

On p. 85 of the second edition we read:

When he wished his followers to realize that
he was truly alive, he "appeared" to them,
was "seen" by them, i.e., they realized that
he was alive and glorified. We, too, by
faith, "meet" the glorified Christ when
we realize that he is alive and acting among us.

In short, the Apostles are described as having really seen nothing more than we see today, if we have the right amount of faith!

The book had its Imprimatur withdrawn about a dozen years ago, and I suspect the foregoing passage played a big role in that, along with expositions of similar ideas on that page and the next.
