Yes, there was hunger, there was war, there were social injustices, there was communism and dictators who suppressed peoples religious freedoms. But there was also a safety net of morality, of social conduct that kept "evil" in check. As of late though, that safety net has become full of holes and we now see evil up front and in our faces. Abortion, homosexuality, sexual immorality, pornography, euthanasia, human trafficking... and the list gets longer and more corrupt (and more socially acceptable). Why, what has happened to cause this change, and there has been a definitive world change in morality (that has even infected some of our churches). Is it the material prosperity we have seen in recent years or something more. Is it also our technical and scientific advancements that have had such wonderful consequences but have also been used by some with wrong intentions to influence and draw the masses away from God. For example, I am thinking of contraception, and then there is the media (television and movies and the like) some of which has poisoned the minds of so many. Christ said clearly we will see what is good being portrayed as evil and what is evil being portrayed as good. So in just a couple of generations morality has been turned upside down, and what will there be in a couple more generations? But I think as things get worse also there are distinctions between good and evil that are so apparent that many are awakened to what is evil and repelled by it. Unfortunately there are many who are drawn into the deception. So Christ says the road is narrow. God help us. The evils of the world used to be less acceptable.
