I personally stopped taking the newspaper years ago. The reason? I never had time to read it. Yes, I felt it was biased and that it was mostly full of advertising anyway, but I actually enjoyed the newspaper much more than radio and TV. But, due to long commute times, long working hours, and after-work activities (such as the church, the POA, etc etc) there was not much time left to just sit and read the news.

I now fill the void by consulting a variety of news sources from the radio, from websites and from occasional magazines, but no TV (I don't have the time to just sit there plus I don't have access to anything but network TV news sources anyway). Of these however I prefer reading material over audio, because I can actually ponder what I just read for a moment before being inundated with the next topic.

News sources with a Catholic bend are increasing. Locally we recently saw Relevant Radio come live, and also EWTN has some share of the airwaves nearby. EWTN in particular has made great progress with their Son-Rise Morning Show which I find to be of pretty good quality with a wide range of subjects.

What I'd like to see is more effort on expanding the scope of religious-sponsored programming. Sure, we need catechesis but what's wrong with wrapping it around reporting over a broad range of subjects - science, sports, politics and all the others - adding in (not imposing) a Catholic world view where interpretation is appropriate?

It will all work out. The digital revolution is changing the world. It has to. Things must go on. Prayer, sacrafice and love will make this world what Christ has always called us to build: the Kingdom of God.
