I worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta and she has asked: "If you would kill the innocent baby in the womb of its mother, what will you not do?"...and I believe all that is occurring is a consequence of this evil. The priest 'scandal' was primarily one of homosexual priests engaging in sexual activity with homosexual young men; it was not primarily a case of pedophilia. It was all evil because the Priests takes a vow of celibacy...and is called to be as a 'father' and 'shepherd' to his people...the Priests involved failed at this too. But for me, the greatest failure was on the part of Cardinals and Bishops who knowingly allowed these Priests to return and work with children. Even if the Bishops felt the Priests were 'cured', one wouldn't send an alcoholic to work in a bar or a diabetic to work in a bakery. So the Cardinals and Bishops failed to be 'shepherd' to their Priests and, in many cases, enabled them. I believe some Cardinals and Bishops are failing now when allow Catholic politicians who publicly and consistently not only support abortion, but foster it and legislate pro abortion policies to continue to receive Holy Communion. This emboldens these Catholic politicians like Nancy Pelosi who wanted to put a contraceptive clause into the stimulus package and now wants everyone to sign a card thanking Obama for enabling embryonick stem cell research. This is really thumbing her nose at the Church and she gets away with it. No wonder so many Catholics are lost and confused. They think that if these politicians are permitted to continue to receive the Eucharist, then abortion is probably no big deal, surely not the grave moral evil that we know it to be. Cardinal Egan likened abortion to the Holocaust and I would ask him if he would have allowed Hitler and his henchmen to receive the Eucharist if they were Catholic...it's all so crazy and unbelievable. Millions of babies exterminated and the world goes on almost unblinkingly!! If this were being done to animals, there would be universal horror and outrage!!! So...let's keep our solidarity in prayer strong and unyielding...thanks, Sam
