Professor Tsakanikas,
Excellent analysis on the moral level. But as PrarieHawk notes above, the rub is in how to put a nation detailed from the cardinal virtues back onto the tracks. A lot of prayer and thought has gone into this very question, as detailed in www.tell-usa.org/

Let me just say here that our radical problems will require radical solutions. The regular political system is so much a part of the problem, that it cannot even address little troubles effectively. To accomplish a radical turnabout will require a counterrevolution, led perhaps by an Article V constitutional convention.

No one CARES about the US anymore. It's just a land that unti lrecently had lots of junk to loot. Now that Obamism has been mandated as the state religion, the US is tanking faster than any other previous world power ever declined.

Revelation 18:19-20
Then they threw dust on their heads and shouted while crying and mourning,“How terrible, how terrible it is for the great city, where all who had ships at sea became rich because of her wealth!

For in one hour she has been destroyed! Gloat over her, heaven, saints, apostles, and prophets! For God has condemned her for you.”

Something is terribly lacking when they confuse "Healthcare" with abortion and euthanasia, or when they don't recognize marriage and traditional families as the foundation of civilized society. At the root of the crisis was indeed greed and irresponsibility and that stimulus package is still about greed and lack of temperance and we will pay for it one way or another.

</i> Trying to turn italics off.

I agree with the article. The word "virtue" isn't even in many Americans vocabulary nowadays, and if it is, it is pigeonholed) as Christian religious language.

Certainly we are called as Christians, and especially in the New Evangelization, to demonstrate to our nation both virtue and the Source of virtue, our Lord.

The Church has been trying to turn and face the world since Vatican II, but for a long while there was a wide mis-implementation of the Council's teachings by many bishops, priests, and laypeople. I think that has been changing, and now young Catholics, on fire for their faith in Christ, are earnestly engaging the modern world.

But how to recover the practice of virtue? There's the rub. It seems we have a "lost generation"--the people who came of age in the upheavals of the 60's. They lost their compass, and their children are often flailing about looking for something more, but they have no way of knowing what "more" is. Cohabitation outside of marriage, abortion and birth control, divorce, and easy credit--all have become normal. I'm not sure how to put the genie back in the bottle, other than to say that Christ is the answer for all of us. It is time for the Church to turn and face the world.

I believe the author is using "vicious" not as it is usually used, but rather to describe something possessing the attribute of vice, which both our news and entertainment media so often do.
