My daughter entered Religious Life in August. Many of our friends and family were not surprised, nor were we, when she told us of her decision. We have been blessed with so much support and are very proud of her for keeping her heart open to God's call.

I pray each day that "Godly people will come into my children's lives, especially for spouses". It was exactly the response I was looking for but what better spouse could I have picked for her? Once again, be careful what you pray for!

We only see her 4 times a year, so that has been difficult who am I to argue with God? I know she's in good hands, and also God's hands!

Keep all of our young people in prayer. I know of at least 3 of her friends discerning religious life and the priesthood! God is always calling and we have to encourage them to answer.

With the condition the world is in and our country is moving toward, we may be thankful, filled with gratitude that we do not have lots of grandchildren because there is so much evil to be cast upon the world now. People seem to be blind to what is happening and they all need to call upon Jesus and Mary for help. That is the answer.

Dear person,
I am praying that my younger grandson will be called to the priesthood. I am sorry you do not get morepositive responses. The spouse of the religious is the perfect spouse. I believe God has chosen a handful of people who will continue to believe in Him and His mother and that we will be saved, as we are mocked by those who are atheists and agnostics, etc. Pray for them for they know not what they do. Pray. Call upon Mary. Ask her to take over. Blessings.

I'm so sorry that you don't get positive responses. I think you are very blessed to have a daughter who listened to the Lord calling her to this vocation. My husband and I pray daily for our children to listen to that call whether it's a call to the priesthood or religious life or marriage or the single life. Of course, my husband does joke with me about hoping that at least one of our children blesses us with grandchildren someday so he hopes that God doesn't call all of the to be priests and nuns. :-)

Thank you for this beautiful article. I understand what you are experiencing as my oldest just left for Europe to prepare to become a sister. The comment about staying in college as a "back-up" is probably the most common and amusing comment that I get. If she were in medical school, I wonder if anyone would suggest she also enroll in law school just in case she changes her mind. Or if engaged, would anyone suggest that she continue dating others, just in case? It is not suprising that people don't understand, because so few of us have contemporaries who are religious.

The hardest part for me is the separation from my daughter, and I pray to Louis Martin often for his help, as I know he understands. St. John Bosco has always been a favorite saint of mine, and I also ask him mother, Margaret, to help me to be a good mother especially for this child.

In a recent marriage discussion on CE, a comment was made that only those who become a religious have a perfect spouse. That is a comforting thought for me. How blessed my daughter is to have been chosen by such a Spouse! May the many people (compared to the numbers in my generation!) answering God's call be blessed in their vocations, and may our prayers of gratitude give them comfort and strength.
