Everyone here is talking about FOCA when marriage is being attacked. I think the final confrontation will focus on that: The American Catholic Church will never concede to performing same sex marriage.

To prairehawk,
I too would like to think that somehow Obama's plan to increase abortion rights will in fact decrease abortions. However I need to be realistic. If the Freedom of Choice Act passes, then every single state restriction on abortion will be lifted and we will have abortion accessible to anyone at any age. We will not be able to talk with a woman who is considering abortion since the 24 hour wait period will be gone. We will not be able to get to a teen because as long as she has a ride to the clinic she won't have to tell her parents. Since abortions will be free women won't have to delay their hasty decision to abort because of the money. My church has never talked about abortion from the pulpit so our women won't hear about another choice there. The media is so pro-choice you can bet that women will not get another voice there either. Crisis pregnancy centers can only do so much. Yes, they save hundreds of lives each year, but why go there in the future if the ultrasound is free at the abortion clinic? As the numbers from Judie Brown's article attest, we need laws to protect the unborn, 1.2 million deaths a year will be hard to tackle on a one-one basis under the conditions I just stated.

I think if Obama imposes policies that are as radical as we all fear, then the abortion fight will have to move out of the courts and legislatures and toward the hearts and minds of each individual American. Whatever the law says, abortions aren't going to be performed if people aren't demanding them. That's where we need to shift our focus: toward personal conversions in order to reduce demand. Maybe this is what we've needed all along, and Obama is a blessing in disguise.
