I love the Fathers too. And Mr Jewell, ditto to you! I love popes. Viva il Papa!

A favorite prayer of mine is St Ignatius of Antioch's. He wrote/prayed it on his way to his martyrdom in Rome.

My desires are crucified.
The warmth of my body is gone.
A stream flows within,
Deep within me it calls,
"Come to the Father."

Know the Fathers and you'll know the Church.
Love the Fathers and you'll love the Church!

The finest grace of Pope Benedict XVI is that he is a 'thinker's thinker' without much getting bound up in his own ego. His writing tends to be clear even more than text-bookish - a teacher who loves his students more than his own writing. He follows closely on Pope Saint John Paul the Great. In both their intelligence and expression, they may be the finest one-two punch out of the Vatican that truth in the Faith has ever had.

And, yet, other Popes have seemed to slide into revels of deepest humility in the office at once responsible to layman and Holy Spirit; oh, yea, are they 'servants of the servants of God'. In our Popes, hence, we are never without a 'Church Father' right at hand. God be praised, to so bless us.

I definitely plan on reading this book. Another book that helped me understand the Church Fathers was "The Fathers of the Church" by Mike Aquilina.
