Canada: Green Party Leader Reiterates “Strong Support” for Abortion

September 16th, 2008 by Jenna Murphy Print This Article Print This Article ·

The Green Party of Canada released a document on Sunday in which Green Party leader, Elizabeth May, reasserted her strong support for abortion and her intention to provide “greater access” to abortion services in the country’s rural regions.”On CTV’s Question Period today, it was incorrectly said that I am against a woman’s right to choose,” said Ms. May. “It is important that Canadians are aware of the Green Party’s belief that protecting abortion rights in Canada is critical. I share this belief and the Green Party will work to enhance availability of abortion services in Canada.”

Stating that her views on reproductive rights are “the same” as those of former American President Bill Clinton, May stated that the Green Party is committed to working towards “safe, legal and rare” abortions.

The news release goes on to say that May’s party seeks “to ensure greater access to abortion” and more reliable “prevention of unwanted pregnancies” throughout rural Canada, in particular.

The Green Party leader’s support of a “woman’s right to choose” is similar to every other major Canadian party platform on the issue. Party leaders from the Liberals, the Tories, the NDP, and the Bloc Quebecois parties have all previously joined the Green Party in voicing their opposition to creating legislation to limit or restrict access to abortion.

Despite the hopes of social conservatives that a Conservative government would work towards placing some reasonable restrictions on abortion in Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has repeatedly expressed his opposition to any such measures.

In June of 2006 Harper stated, “Let me be very clear on the positions I’ve have taken on [abortion]. I want there to be no misunderstanding. I’ve said repeatedly, that I will not, that my Conservative government will not be tabling any legislation impacting in any way a woman’s right to choose.”

“Womens “right to choose” is a lie. Many women are FORCED by family or by the perpetrator of the pregnancy to seek abortions. Abortion is a crime against womanhood and attacks motherhood itself. Women deserve better. “Safe Sex” is another lie that causes this, as contraceptives all have failure rates that end up being “backed up” by abortion. This is an attack upon the mother as well as the baby. I know several friends who confided that they had abortions and were deeply scarred by them, leaving them depressed, anguished or dependant on drugs/alcohol or needing mental help, while others were in angry denial.

“Women’s ‘right to choose’ is a lie”.

The majority of women on this planet live in poverty, have no access to education or proper health services, and are socially and economically raised to be completely dependent on men. Religious brainwashing ensures that women will continue to be dependent on men. As long as there are women out there who continue to associate the right to choose with killing babies then men will continue to keep women as slaves.

So let’s see, Martin: women have the choice to either be slaves of men, or to kill their own babies in order to be free. And if they take the second option, they need to get it out of their silly heads that what lives inside of them before an abortion is actually a baby, a real child of their own and convince themselves that what really lives inside of them is nothing but some impediment to their freedom and the sooner they figure that out the better off they will be.

And among the poor there are no real marriages of love and partnership. No real family affection. No poor couple for whom their children are the treasure of both the mother and father.
