Thanks for this excellent interview with Dr. Fastiggi. Such good reminders that we need to grow in our appreciation of the Eucharist!

I think it is important that in our zeal we do not judge our neighbors, however. Better that we work on developing our own attitudes of reverence. I really believe when we do so we influence others, as well.

Regarding genuflecting when our pastors ask us not to -- I think obedience should always be the rule. When I am in a situation where the entire congregation is standing for the consecration, for instance, I may kneel (and perhaps simply draw attention to myself -- not Jesus) or I may humbly stand with the others. God knows the disposition of my heart -- He knows if I truly kneel to Him or not.

Thank you, Dr. Williams and Dr. Fastiggi! I wish this could be shouted from the rooftops, printed in every paper, sent to every pastor in the U.S.!

A few years ago, I had a pastor (priest) who was livid with my genuflecting before receiving the Holy Eucharist. In private, he ranted and raved and demanded that I "compromise" for fear someone would "fall over me" and sue his parish. I let him get it out, looked him square in the eye and said: "Father, if we honestly believe we are receiving the real Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in Holy Communion, it seems to me that the only reasonable, logical position to do so would be flat on our faces on the floor. I'm already 'compromising'." He never brought it up again.

how wonderful. thank you again for sending a sound message. At times I think that I get so zealous over mass that I may be off. When I really think about everything that I have understood and what you just strenghtened, then I am truly blessed to take part fully in any mass and my zeal is in line with my understanding. thank you again, sharon
