I have heard from at least one spiritually mature person whose judgment I trust that the fruit of abortion in this country is going to be nuclear war. We may as well have had one already, with the number of dead children now approaching 50 million, and countless millions more aborted and contracepted out of existence by the Pill and other contraceptive methods. These are sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance, and if we beg God for vengeance, what do we expect we will get?

If the whole nation were to repent today, if a constitutional amendment banning abortion and contraception were passed tomorrow, I'm still not sure that would be enough. Repentance and conversion are always followed by Purgatory, a Purgatory made all the harsher by our decades of indifference to the suffering of the most innocent of all in our midst.

By all means, pray to Our Lady of America, and pray and work to end abortion, and, in the words of Pope John Paul II, "Pray that you succeed."
