Fr. John Rausch, There is a very plausible reason why the US spends so much on defense [offense] and that is because the current administration and many before him operate from and out of fear. Typically when a person is terribly afraid, they will strike out before anyone is even attempting to strike them. As the Holy Scriptures so stunningly put it, "they will imagine that they are being pursued, when no one pursues them". It takes a great deal of courage to deal fairly with our enemies and that courage can only be found in love as Christ has said, "Love your enemies and pray for them". Fear drives out all love and causes best friends even to be enemies. The United States as a whole(especially Congress and the Presidency) are a faithless lot and have no concept of love in the Christian Catholic sense, nor do I believe they ever will. Democracy does not promote Christianity, it merely tolerates it but so do the Communists.

Ridding the world of nuclear weapons and all other arms for that matter is a great idea, but it is unrealistic. If America is not the greatest and most heavily armed country in the world who will be? China, a nations that brutally oppresses priests like Fr. Rausch and forces its own people to undergo abortions? Iran or any other Islamic society? According to the Constitution, governments job is not to vaccinate the world, nor is it to provide health care coverage for people. Government should provide for the national defense of our country. And, if Christians like myself and Fr. Rausch want to do more, let it be our duty to help vaccinate children worldwide and provide an education for children worldwide. People today have a flawed view of government. No longer do we "ask what we can do for our country." We have been taught that we are to ask what our country can do for us.
